Research Project: Marsh Pointe’s First Grade Animal Zoo
Marsh Pointe Elementary’s first grade students have published an eBook! Linda Nadrawski, library media specialist, collaborated with first grade teachers as they facilitated a multi-week research project about animals. The students researched animals, wrote their animal facts, drew a picture of the animal, videotaped themselves reading their animal facts and then created their own page for the eBook. The culminating activity was the animal zoo. The media center tables became cages and the invited guests and classes came in to view facts on the iPads and see the premier of the eBook titled “Animal Zoo.” Visitors were allowed to feed the animals; you guessed it, animal crackers. It was a huge success. Students commented, “This is the best school day ever.” The students are looking forward to creating another eBook and the library media specialist and teachers are looking forward to facilitating that project.
