Pro Golfer Designates Funds From The Presidents Cup

Posted by: Vickie Middlebrooks

Robert Allenby, a four-time PGA TOUR event winner, designated a check in the amount of $25,000 to Allamanda Elementary School.  This contribution is a portion of the charitable proceeds generated from The Presidents Cup 2009 at Harding Park Golf Course in San Francisco, California, in which Mr. Allenby participated as a member of the International Team for the fifth time in his career.

The Presidents Cup is a unique golf event in that there is no purse or prize money. Players are not personally paid for their participation, but each competitor is allowed to allocate funds to chosen charitable cause.  As a supporter of Allamanda Elementary, Mr. Allenby designated his funds to go to the Palm Beach Gardens school.

Allamanda Elementary is home to many students with various disabilities, including students with autism, physical disabilities and mental challenges.  Allamanda Principal Marilu Garcia said, “Mr. Allenby’s designation of the funds from his participation in the President’s Cup to our school will allow us to invest in teaching tools that we would never be able to afford.  He truly will make a difference in the lives of children.”

More than $4.2 million was distributed to charitable causes from The Presidents Cup 2009, a record-tying amount for this prestigious competition and part of the nearly $22 million raised since the inception of the event in 1994.
