Students and Teachers From Ecuador Visit Palm Beach County on Learning Tour
International Baccalaureate School Representatives Visit Florida Counterparts
A whirlwind visit of about 47 students and 12 teachers from Ecuador is scheduled for Palm Beach County later this month. Home Language Program Planner Sandra Arroyo said the intent of the trip set for March 22 and 23 is enriching.
“The plan is to increase mutual understanding between students living in the United States and other regions of the world,” she stated. “This school is located in Quito, Ecuador and became an International Baccalaureate World School in June, 2008. They visit with students and staff at a variety of our CHOICE Programs and our International Spanish Academy schools to gain and share insight and strategies,” she stressed.
Some of the schools on the visitation schedule are part of the Multicultural Education Department’s Dual Language Program—one of a variety of ESOL program strategies utilized by Palm Beach County schools.
The curriculum at Ludoteca School in Ecuador is taught in both Spanish and English and focuses on science and tourism. The visiting students will perform folkloric dances typical to Ecuador, and present the beauty of the country of Ecuador to their audiences here through slide shows, music and dance. This is the third year a group from Ludoteca has visited District schools. For more information, contact Sandra Arroyo at 561-434-8774 or email arroyos@palmbeach.k12.fl.us.
