Afterschool Program Students Participate in Honda Classic Junior Golf Clinic
It was a cool, crisp day but the climate was electric with the excitement of junior golfers from several district elementary afterschool programs during the recent First Tee of the Palm Beaches—a much anticipated Honda Classic Junior Golf Clinic held at the PGA National Golf Course! Young golfers from Egret Lake, Lake Park, Northboro, North Palm Beach and Seminole Trails elementary afterschool programs participated and rode tour buses that were commissioned to pick them up at their schools and transport them to the PGA National Champion Range.
Once there, Golf Tour professionals, Todd Hamilton, David Duval, and Tim Herron thrilled the “golfers in training” with an exhibition, shared stories, and provided insider tips for playing golf like a pro. Students also received Honda Classic t-shirts and autographed golf balls as souvenirs of their exciting time at the playground of golf celebrities.
Elaine Cittadino, a coordinator with the District’s Afterschool Programming Department said The First Tee is an international youth development program supported by leading golf organizations. “Their philosophy promotes character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf by conveying The First Tee Nine Core Values – - Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility, Perseverance, Courtesy, and Judgment into the golf initiative curriculum,” she stated, “Each of these are characteristics that will serve the students well in life—not just the sport of golf,” she added.
