Lake Worth High School Mixes Fun With Philanthropy

Posted by: Deborah Stewart

Staff and Students for St. Baldricks Donate Hair for Children’s Cancer Research

Lake Worth High School completed its second St Baldricks event just before Spring Break.  Eight faculty members and 30 students shaved or donated 10 inches of hair for Locks of Love.  Palm Beach State College’s Cosmetology Department helped out with ten students shaving the heads of the brave volunteers. Although the final count isn’t in yet–organizers anticipate that they raised more than $3000.00.  The top fundraiser was Mr. Jonathan Stratis, who saw the Lake Worth High School page on the St Baldrick’s web site and participated by raising $710.00. Lake Worth High senior Cindy Dameus organized an eight team, Dodge ball game with 10 players on each team. It was called “Dodge for the Cause” and was a major part of the St. Baldricks fundraising efforts.  Everyone had a great time and they raised $500.00!

Lake Worth High teacher Mr. Brent Bludworth and Officer Martin Shorkey organized the school’s event. St Baldricks is a not- for-profit organization that raises awareness and money which funds research to cure children’s cancer.
