Santaluces High Earns Gold and Silver at National Family and Career Conference
Members of Santaluces High School’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) recently attended the school’s 11th FCCLA National Conference when they traveled to in Chicago, Illinois. They joined 6,000 other young people from the 50 United States, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The students from Santaluces were involved in competition, presentations, and various leadership activities and they participated in events around this year’s theme; “65 Years of Leadership”. In addition, Maggie Matella from Santaluces participated in Capital Leadership Training as the District VIII State Officer. She stated that the conference was a wonderful growth opportunity for all the students. “There are few experiences that impact you like attending a conference where thousands of other like-minded people converge for the express purpose of learning, sharing, and expanding possibilities,” she added.
The following results of competition verified the talent of the Santaluces participants:
Britini Wilder, Maggie Matella and Allison Saturnini earned a Gold Medal in Chapter Service Project Display– Senior Division (Their project was a community service project teaching elementary student at Indian Pines and Royal Palm School the values of going green);
Stefanie Adams and Breanne Wanless earned a Gold Medal in Chapter Showcase – Occupational Division (Their presentation highlighted the various chapter activities that happened throughout the year);
Gabriella Syvaniemi earned a Gold Medal in Job Interview – Occupational Division (She had to create a portfolio of her work related to the career of culinary photography);
Alysia Moran earned a Silver Medal in Early Childhood – Occupational Division (She had to plan and present a lesson plan with activities related to a detailed theme for a chosen age group);
Lauren Beard, Brittany Mayo, and Angelica Mendez earned a Silver Medal in Interpersonal Communications (Their project was centered around teaching teens safe driving habits and refraining from distractive driving); and
Lindsay Breffle and Jamilla Grant earned a Silver Medal in Chapter Service Project Display – Occupational Division (They collected arts and craft supplies for disadvantaged pre-school children and spent time at their center participating in activities.)
