West Boca Raton High Business Partner Selected National Outstanding Service Award Winner

Posted by: Vickie Middlebrooks

J.C. Perrin, Business Partner and Advisory Board member to West Boca Raton Community High School, has been selected to receive the 2010 Carl Perkins Outstanding Service Award from the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) during the General Session at the ACTE Convention and Career Tech Expo on Friday, December 3, 2010, in Las Vegas.  ACTE offers this award in recognition of the contributions and distinguished accomplishments of those persons who have been identified with the work and purpose of the Association.

In the fall of 2003, Mr. Perrin answered the call for a challenging job.  He formed a dynamic collaboration with the Principal (Francis Giblin) and the Academies of West Boca Raton, establishing the Community Academies Advisory Board (CAAB) comprised of local leaders from business, industry and higher education. Mr. Perrin used his leadership experience and problem solving skills as the tools to lay the foundation and build a successful Community Academy Advisory Board.  Mr. Perrin works determinedly to recruit executives for West Boca High School’s CAAB.

Currently, Mr. Perrin is working on two significant projects.  He is organizing area restaurateurs to sponsor the “Calaloo Café,” an on-campus, laboratory dining room which provides front of the house training for the Academy of Culinary Arts.  He is also working with a local attorney to set the cornerstone for a West Boca Raton High School Education Foundation.  This foundation is envisioned as an umbrella organization to benefit the entire school with a component dedicated to supporting the academy programs.

Constance Scotchel-Gross, Manager of Career Education, stated, “Mr. Perrin began as a volunteer in 1996 when he served as the founding mentor and lead recruiter for the Success at Work Program for high school students. He continues to be a driving force in striving to give the students of Palm Beach County every opportunity to succeed in their chosen field of endeavor.  Career Education is very grateful for his continued involvement and congratulates him on receiving the ACTE Outstanding Contribution to Career and Technical Education Award.”
