Local Veterans Visit UBKinsey/Palmview Elementary School of the Arts For Veterans Day Celebration

Posted by: Vickie Middlebrooks

VeteransUBKinsey/Palmview Elementary School of the Arts students celebrated Veterans Day with a collaboration of arts performances. As more than a dozen veterans arrived on campus, they were met with a large welcome sign in the parking lot prepared by a third grade class. The program began with kindergarteners pledging allegiance to the flag with the veterans, and the first graders singing them the UBK Up, Up and Away school song. The Gold Orchestra, Kinsey Singers and UBK Band performed rousing renditions of their material that will be performed at the school fundraiser this Tuesday, November 16th, 7 pm at the Harriet Himmel Theatre in City Place (sponsored by Kretzer Piano).

The Visual Arts Department had students of all ages draw and paint heartfelt messages in cards thanking the veterans for their service to our country. One of the cards featured a large eagle and flag on the front with the message, “Bless Your Heart for Protecting our Country”.  And to top off the day, these photos were taken by a fifth grade photography student.  UBK Elementary School of the Arts is a magnet school that offers a full complement of the arts.

Principal Adrienne Howard thanked the guests for coming and their service to our country. “Our Veterans Day event was an important day that will be remembered by us all. Following a tasty lunch and beautifully decorated cake celebrating the day, the veterans introduced themselves. We were amazed that the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines were all represented, and covered the World War II, Korean, Afghanistan and Vietnam Wars.”   Daniel Margolis, the Founder and President of the Veteran’s Services of America, Inc. summed up the day as being “one of the nicest programs he’s ever been to with such a wonderfully diverse group of incredibly talented students!”
