Seminole Ridge High Continues Improving School Grade

Posted by: Natalia Arenas

Seminole Ridge High continues achieving good grades according to the latest report released by the Florida Department of Education.  The school is now “A” rated and will strive to maintain this grade in the future years.

The teachers and administrators have been implementing various strategies such as Book It, an initiative that encourages all students to read more actively. Good reading comprehensions skills are essential in all subject areas and this initiative persuades students to make reading a part of their daily activities.

Other strategies included progress monitoring through guidance counselors, after school and Saturday tutorials and identifying students in need of extra support. Providing students with additional tutoring is an essential part of the success at Seminole Ridge because you can target the specific needs of each child and address them at the same time.

“Success in increasing our grade to an “A” is due to the dedicated efforts of our students, faculty and staff. Our performance on the non-FCAT portion of the test was validation of the strategies implemented to address the new grading criteria,” said Dr. Lynne McGee, principal.

Seminole Ridge is very committed to continue this path of success and with quality professional development, continued tutoring and monitoring the students and teachers progress it will be possible.
