2011 Beginning Teachers of the Year & Mentor Teachers of the Year Honored For Outstanding Performance

The 4th Annual Beginning Teacher of the Year Award Ceremony and the 1st Annual Mentor Teacher of the Year Ceremony took place at Forest Hill High School on Thursday, May 19. The Department of Professional Development and the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County, Inc. co-sponsored the event in support of first year teachers and mentors.
The awards were presented to elementary, middle, and high school first year teachers and mentors employed by the School District of Palm Beach County, who have been recommended by their principal for demonstrating excellence.
The Beginning Teacher of the Year Award was awarded to the following teachers:
- Elementary – Sherry Vargo, Frontier Elementary
- Middle – Carly McKague Mejeur, Palm Beach Maritime Academy
- High – Joshua Prieur, Boca Raton Community High School

Tanaya Anand, Carver Middle School; Christine Black, Allamanda Elementary; Marilynn Rose Pedek, Suncoast Community High School.
The Mentor Teacher of the Year Award was awarded to the following teachers:
- Elementary – Christine Black, Allamanda Elementary
- Middle – Tanaya Anand, Carver Middle School
- High – Marilynn Rose Pedek, Suncoast Community High School
Each award recipient will receive $500 to be used
for planning lessons and/or supplies for their classrooms.
