College Board Selects Palm Beach County Schools As Spring Board National Demonstration Schools
The College Board recently announced that Boynton Beach High School and Santaluces Community High School were chosen as SpringBoard® National Demonstration Schools for the 2011-2013 school years. These schools will serve as model sites of future SpringBoard implementations throughout the country. A total of 14 schools from Colorado, New Mexico Washington and Florida were selected.
SpringBoard is the foundational component for the College Board’s College Readiness System, offering a proven Pre-AP program that increases participation and prepares a greater diversity of students for success in AP, college and beyond – without remediation. To become a National Demonstration School, the schools must meet the criteria based on the implementation of the component for at least two years with ongoing professional development. In addition, their teachers established a professional learning community within the school so — in collaboration with their peers— they learn from their collective classroom experiences and share teaching best practices.
Each winning school received a $10,000 credit for professional development services; registration and recognition at College Board events; a customized school banner and plaque; inclusion in SpringBoard research and reports; and future opportunities to pilot new SpringBoard-related programs.
The National Demonstration Schools completed rigorous self-assessments and produced videos oF SpringBoard in action featuring student, teacher and administrator interviews underscoring the benefits and successes achieved. Additional evaluation criteria included walk-through visits, portfolio reviews and rigorous interviews.
