October 10, 2011- South Tech Academy’s College And Career Fair A Success
With over 80 attendees, both students and parents, recruiters took advantage of the opportunity to meet with South Tech students and discuss postsecondary college and career options. In attendance were, respectfully, DeVry University, Everest University, Florida Atlantic University, Keiser University, Lynn University, Palm Beach Atlantic University, Palm Beach State College and the U.S. Marine Corps.
The evening kicked off with an informational session presented by Mrs. Erin Kurtz, Guidance Coordinator. Supporting South Tech’s strong student and parent involvement initiatives, she presented pertinent information to both parties and guided attendees through the various postsecondary options available. Topics included high school graduation requirements, college and career readiness, and the students’ and parents’ role in the college financial aid process. An enticing question and answer session followed.
Attendees then met individually with recruiters who then provided specific information regarding the college financial aid process and admissions requirements. Kurtz notes, “South Tech’s first annual College Fair was a huge success. The college and military representatives were very impressed with our students and the quality questions that they asked. It was thrilling to see the room buzzing with good conversation among parents, students, and college representatives.”
Recruiters will continue to visit South Tech Academy throughout the school year and meet with our students, who most certainly set the bar for college and career readiness.
