Suncoast High School Holds Fourth “Career Showcase”
Suncoast High School held their Fourth Annual ‘Career Showcase’ today, Friday, January 13, 2012.
Dr. Linda Cartlidge, Suncoast’s Principal, started this program four years ago to encourage students to identify a ‘career’ choice they are interested in pursuing to match their passion with their profession. This is an extension of her daily message to the students to “Begin With The End In Mind” and work hard every day while focusing on the future.
The Career Showcase is a unique opportunity for the students to meet professionals in their career path. The students are prepared in advance by their teachers to maximize their time and equip them to interview the presenters. They are ready to ask the right questions to get an idea of what their future career choice is really like first-hand.
Based on input from the students and research on the best careers for the future, the Career Showcase Committee seeks out individuals in the desired careers. There will be over a hundred professionals in attendance to speak one-on-one or in small groups with all the students.
Last year students reported a renewed excitement in pursuing their goals. The school also had students who’ve realized that they may need to re-evaluate what they’d like to do in the future. Both of which are extremely important. This is also a great networking opportunity to make ‘matches’ for internships, part-time, summer and full-time jobs for students and future employers.
