Eighth Annual Language and Culture Conference Set for October

Posted by: Deborah Stewart

Organizers of Popular Conference Issue Call for Presenters

ConfLogo3Climbing to New Heights is the theme for the Eighth Annual Language and Culture Conference sponsored by the District’s Department of Multicultural Education. Typically held each year in June, this year’s event is scheduled for October 19 and 20 at Boynton Beach High School. Early registration for participants opens May 1 and can be accessed online at http://www.palmbeachschools.org/multicultural/.  The 2012 conference differs slightly from past years: the October 19 workshops will be open to all educators with roughly 800-1,000 participants expected. The October 20 sessions are limited to the first 250 registered participants in the elementary, secondary, and administrative categories and require a separate enrollment.

Debra Werner is coordinating presenters and workshop facilitators for the conference and said she anticipates a wide range of topics. “We’re looking for sessions in dual language, world languages, multicultural studies and ESOL topics,” she stated. “We’re also interested in speakers covering interventions, literacy, communication and culture, and other topics that provide educators with more resources for use with their students and families.” The deadline to submit proposals for consideration is May 21.

For registration information, contact Steve Tata, 561-434-8055 or Steve.tata@palmbeachschools.org. For details about the call for presenters, contact Ms. Werner, 561-434-8947 or Debra.werner@palmbeachschools.org. General questions about the conference may be directed to Lisa Capra, 561-434-8251 or email Lisa.capra@palmbeachschools.org.
