Adult Education Center Celebrates Its Diverse Student Population
The Adult Education Center (AEC) recently held its 23rd Annual International Friendship Celebration with a variety of school-wide events. Approximately 1000 students, faculty, administrative staff, school board officials participated in the event that brings the students and community together.
Mr. Rick Swearingen, Principal of the Adult Education Center, began the ceremony with a welcome address and students representing about 40 different countries paraded the grounds with flags and folkloric outfits representing their countries.
“The Annual International Friendship Celebration is a very special event for everyone at the Adult Education Center. It is a day that exemplifies friendship, diversity and camaraderie among all groups in the school – faculty, staff and most importantly our students,” said Mr. Swearingen.
The program also included the AEC song composed and interpreted by teacher Mariette Daniel, followed by a song dedicated to the multicultural aspects of the center composed and sung by former students, Stinson Pedro Valley. There were also line dancing, volleyball and soccer tournaments, as well as other indoor and outdoor games.
One of the highlights of the celebration was an international bazaar featuring various products and handmade items from the students.
