Veterans Speakers To Present Forum At Boca Raton Middle

WHERE :   Boca Raton Middle School  -     1251 NW 8th St.  Boca Raton

WHY :        Many students do not understand the meaning of memorial day and just see it as a day off. The Social Studies department felt it was important to show students the reason for memorial day. Having veterans come and speak to the students should help bring alive the experiences that students have previously just read about to life. The objective is that students gain a new value for the freedom that they enjoy and a new respect for current and past military personnel that helps to protect this country.

About the Veterans Speakers Forum

The Veterans Speakers Forum is an organization of veterans founded by Cpl. Burt Richards to “teach our kids patriotism” with videos, books, and most importantly our veterans themselves. Hosting the event is Cpl. Burt Richards an award winning speaker, who along with multiple other veterans will discuss their war experiences with the students. These different stories will bring to life the many experiences of the veterans and armed forces. On the day following the event each student will be shown a video about the Tuskegee Airmen and then will be given a choice to write a reflection of the experience, a letter to a veteran, or a letter to an active duty military person.
