Plumosa Becomes School District’s Fourth Gold School
With Plumosa School of the Arts achieving LEED Gold Certification, the School District now has more schools that have earned this designation than any other school district in Florida. Pine Jog Elementary, Everglades Elementary and Northboro Elementary have also achieved the prestigious LEED Gold Certification. C. O. Taylor/Kirklane Elementary and Hope-Centennial Elementary have been awarded LEED Silver Certification and Pahokee Middle School is Florida Green Building Coalition Certified.
Plumosa School of the Arts Principal Sally Rozanski said, “Plumosa promotes active citizenship. Being recognized for the efforts of our staff, community, and students, in combination with the expertise of the School District, Tercilla Courtemanche Architects, and Suffolk Construction is a great honor and very rewarding.” The “new” Plumosa was built on the old campus of Atlantic High School.
In addition to addressing energy conservation and using recycled materials LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification recognizes schools for classroom acoustics, master planning, mold prevention and sustainable use of the site.
