KEC/Canal Point Elementary News Club Proves to be Top in the State
A video created by KEC/Canal Point Elementary’s KEC TV news club placed 2nd in the 2012 Florida School Boards Association’s Video Contest. Placing in this contest is one of the biggest accomplishments for the school’s video production program since this was the first time the school entered a video contest where they competed against Middle Schools and High Schools. The first place winner was a high school club.

The theme of the FSBA contest was “What’s Super About Public Schools”. KEC/Canal Point Elementary’s video titled “Super Student and his Super Public School” was about a superhero named Super Student. The video showed that all of Super Student’s super powers came directly from all of the super things happening at his public school.
Super Student was played by 5th grader Anthony Bowie. Anthony has been a part of the KEC TV news since he started in third grade as Damon Weaver’s (student who interviewed President Obama) protégé.
KEC/Canal Point Elementary has been awarded $2,500 for winning 2nd place. The money will be used to improve the school’s television studio (replace broken and old equipment) and to cover travel expenses for events that the school covers off campus.
This has been a very successful school year for KEC/Canal Point Elementary’s KEC TV news club since they created videos that placed in all four statewide/nationwide video contests that they entered.
