Sunrise Park Is On “Target” For A Great School Year!
Grants From Target Corporation Help Arts And Tutorial Program
Sunrise Park Elementary School recently received two grants from the Target Corporation, each for $2,000.00. The first grant will be used to fund the Afterschool art program called “R.I.S.E. (Respect and Responsibility Invites a Safe Environment) through the Arts.” Under the guidance of art teacher, Judy Simon, students will design murals to remind everyone of Sunrise Park’s weekly character traits, which are part of the school-wide positive behavior support program. The murals will then be painted in different locations throughout the school.
The second grant was awarded for Sunrise Park’s “Club Discovery” program. This is an Afterschool tutorial program for students enrolled in grades K-5. Students receive homework help, academic assistance in reading and math, and valuable time in the computer lab to practice pertinent academic skills. The grant of $2,000.00 will help Sunrise Park implement this tutorial club during the 2012-2013 school year.
“Sunrise Park is grateful to Target for supporting our students through their generous grant award program and would like to thank them for giving back to students and local schools. Sunrise Park Elementary is surely on “target” for another great year,’ said Alicia Steiger, the school principal.
