Melaleuca Elementary School is Planting Roots to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage
Students, staff, and parents plan informative, joyous fiesta
Viva la cultura! The Melaleuca Elementary School family is planning their 8th annual celebration of Hispanic Heritage with Planting Culture-Sembrando Raices as part of their ongoing appreciation of diversity. The school has scheduled this event for Thursday, October 18, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. On the agenda: music, food, performances, academic displays, and much more. The school’s Dual Language teachers are participating by presenting an educational lesson on Latin American countries and the school’s Culture Club dancers— Sembrando Raices will perform.
Sembrando Raices dancers are students from K-5th grades who have joined the Culture Club dance groups. The dance teachers are dedicated parents who understand the importance of teaching students about their culture and identity. Currently the club has dance groups from Colombia, Peru, and Puerto Rico; efforts are being made, however, to create dance groups comprised of students representing every one of the school’s several countries.
