Boynton Beach Mayor Helps Poinciana Elementary Students Read For The Record

Posted by: Bito David

Poinciana Elementary welcomed the Honorable Mayor Woodrow Hay, of the city of Boyton Beach, and his wife along with Carisse LeJeune, Interim Assistant City Manager, Jeff Livergood, Director of Public Works, Nancy Byrne, Director of Development, Lt. Suzanne Gitto, Sergeant Levine, and Major Brigatti from the Boynton Police Department, on October 4, 2012, to celebrate literacy. The group was also supporting Jumpstart’s premiere national campaign Read for the Record, presented in partnership with the Pearson Foundation.  This is one day of the year when millions of individuals come together to celebrate literacy and support Jumpstart in its efforts to promote early childhood education.

On that date, people across the country were encouraged to read the children’s book Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad, by David Soman and Jacky Davis, in support of Jumpstart’s mission to work towards the day that every child in America enters school prepared to succeed.

This initiative is in line with the established School District Key Result to assure that all students of each racial/ethnic group will be proficient in reading as measured by FCAT Writes.
